SAFEGUARDING & CHILD PROTECTION

This Code of Conduct outlines the professional, ethical, and safeguarding expectations for all instructors, assistants, and collaborators teaching under New Era Dancers.
Our goal is to ensure a safe, respectful, inclusive, and professional learning environment for every student.

Our Safeguarding Commitment

We follow four core principles:

1. Prevention First

We actively work to prevent any form of harm, including abuse, neglect, discrimination, or unsafe physical or emotional practices.
This includes:

  • ethical physical corrections,

  • age-appropriate training,

  • psychological safety,

  • clear communication with students and families.

2. Safe Teaching Practices

Our teaching methods respect the body and individuality of each dancer.
We commit to:

  • obtaining consent before physical corrections,

  • maintaining professional boundaries,

  • using positive, non-harmful language,

  • ensuring safe warm-up and injury-prevention practices.

3. Protection From Abuse & Exploitation

Aligned with UNICEF safeguarding standards, we maintain zero tolerance for:

  • physical, emotional, or sexual abuse,

  • inappropriate touch,

  • harassment,

  • exploitation or favoritism,

  • humiliating or harmful teaching methods.

Any concern raised by a student or family will be responded to seriously and confidentially.

4. Responsibility & Accountability

Every educator, assistant, or collaborator working with New Era Dancers is responsible for maintaining a safe environment.
We commit to transparency, ethical behavior, and ongoing review of our conduct and processes.

Parents and students are encouraged to speak up if they feel uncomfortable with any situation.

Code of Conduct (Summary)

Our teachers follow a professional code that includes:

  • Respecting student privacy and emotional boundaries.

  • Maintaining appropriate physical contact for teaching purposes only.

  • Never isolating, intimidating, or humiliating a student.

  • Communicating clearly and respectfully with parents and guardians.

  • Acting immediately upon any safeguarding concern.

Creating a Safe Environment in Dance

We recognize that dance involves physical contact, trust, artistic expression, and emotional vulnerability.
Therefore, we ensure:

  • safe studio spaces,

  • supervision during all activities,

  • appropriate attire and corrections,

  • responsible use of music, choreography, and themes.

Dancers must feel free to express themselves without fear, pressure, or discomfort.

If You Have a Concern

Students, parents, or collaborators may contact us at any time if they feel unsafe or notice anything that could compromise a dancer’s wellbeing.
Concerns will be handled with confidentiality, seriousness, and responsibility.
